Huacaya Alpacas

This is an exciting young, black female! She is a paternal sister to SOPRIS I'm All That, who swept the black female ring as a yearling, while winning 8 JC awards in halter along the way and a total of 33 banners. Prada is off to a stronger start as a juvenile than I'm All That, as Prada won 7 banners as a juvie, while IAT did not win any. Prada is bigger and stronger at this young age, with a very dense, bright, highly organized fleece. It's a completely different fleece type, but quite impressive nonetheless. It will be very interesting to see how her yearling fleece comes in. With any luck, it will evolve in a positive manner as the secondary derived fibers come in. Looking forward to the next show season. Enough said.

Impressionator won a reserve championship his first time out, as an 8 1/2 month old juvie, losing only to the eventual Judges Choice male, SOPRIS Whiskey River. I firmly believe that this kid has a very bright future.

I named this kid Hold My Beer, because he is essentially a multi colored alpaca. In addition, he has a lot of white fibers throughout his blanket. That being said, the quality of this young male inspired me enough to register him and try to show him as a light fawn, realizing that he will get dinged for uniformity of color. I don't care. Does that make sense>

Daughter of the 2025 Futurity Herdsire of the Year for dark offspring, LibertyAlpacas Manifest-Destiny, this young female is a compact, powerhouse, much like her sire. She sports a fleece like that of her mother, Sopris Impression, who is a large, robust white female, with an elite fleece. When awarding "I'm All That" the coveted female Judge's Choice award, for the 2025 Illinois Alpaca Show in Iowa, Kevin O'Leary made the comment that "You just don't see this type of fleece in black." This award was indeed a pleasant surprise. As the show season progressed, Kevin O'Leary's assessment was validated over and over as I'm All That went undefeated in halter, winning 23 Color Championships and a total of 8 Judge's Choice awards from 5 different judges. At Sopris Alpaca Farm, we are very critical of our animals, often times not giving them enough credit. There is no perfect alpaca, but we're still striving for perfection. With that being said, we strongly believe that "I'm All That" is the complete package, and pretty close to what we're striving for. She checks all the boxes from the ground up, beginning with her excellent substance of bone, stovepipe type coverage on straight legs, well proportioned and a very pleasing head type. Her fleece and demeanor round out the package, firmly placing her in our foundation female group. In short, she has elevated the bar for our dark breeding program.

Perfecta's dam is Snowmass Matrix Perfection, a full sister to Snowmass Matrix Belvedere, and since I own her and half of Belvedere, I think I am qualified to say that Perfection is better than Belvedere. That's saying something, indeed! Perfecta is by LibertyAlpacas Manifest-Destiny, one of the most prepotent males in the USA today, and the 2025 Futurity Dark Herdsire of the year and the overall herdsire of the year. A big deal, with 240 nominate males. Perfecta has an extremely long, bright staple, and had a great start to her show career, at TxOlan in 2026, winning a large class of dark fawn juvenile females under Jacob Hart, and placing 3rd under Kevin O'Leary. She has a white face and gray on her muzzle and her feet. She wants to be gray, and is definitely a female to keep an eye on. A good sized girl, with good substance of bone and weighing in at 99.6 lbs at 9 months of age. I forsee a date with SOPRIS Ripping in about a year.

Thief will steal your heart with his calm demeanor and his curb appeal. He grows a luxuriously long staple, while still having very good density, a rare combination. His excellent brightness culminates the package of density, fineness and uniformity of micron.

Sojo is a big, robust female with exquisite fleece. It is very fine, with very good density and a luxurious hand, and brightness. Sojo is the dam of one of our most prepotent males, Soujourner's Malibu Bay! The anticipation of seeing what she produces each year is exactly what I love about breeding alpacas.

Soleil's conformation drew us towards her in the very beginning. She has a very stylish head and a presence about her. Very nice frame and bone. Her fleece is very fine and uniform from front to back, and top to bottom. Soleil has decent density, outstanding brightness and a long stapling fleece! She has a very soft hand as is to be expected, given her uniformity of micron. Soleil's crias are among the most anticipated, each and every year! This year is no exception!

Gemma is the dam of SOPRIS Bandit, a 12 time banner winner, and also SOPRIS Bling, who is following in Bandit's footsteps so far. Gemma is bred to LibertyAlpacas Manifest-Destiny for an August 2026 cria.

Windsong has produced 3 offspring for us. A Matrix son that won some banners as a juvenile, Whistle In The Wind, a daughter, by Amber Autumn Intimadator, who won back to back Judge’s Choice awards in Iowa, in the fall of 2025, before getting sick and passing away 6 days later. And the 3rd is a full brother to Whistle, Sopris Whiskey River, who was the first juvenile we have raised to win a Judge’s Choice. He did this at GWAS, 2026. Our good friends, Cora and Kristen Long, of Badger Canyon Farm purchased half interest in Whiskey River, so watch for them in the upcoming show season.

Taka Number is a great all around male, but is extremely strong in staple length and throwing this trait in his offspring. His 6th fleece won the fleece competition at the EDU, back in 2018, competing against 52 other fleeces, 3 years old or younger. That sums up how his traits are holding up. Taka has outstanding architecture, in a huge, fine, dense fleece that typically is 4 1/2" - 5 1/2" in length at shearing time. The amount of fleece that comes off this animal is eye opening. His neck fleece is just as good as his prime blanket, and nearly as long. At 7, he is still retaining decent fineness for a breeding male, along with a very soft, dense fleece, with a long, well defined staple. His offspring to date, are all nice improvements over the dams, and their brightness stands out! They all have a long staple as well, although the architecture is fairly varied. We proudly co-own Taka with both Stoneberg Alpacas and Crescent Moon Ranch.

Malibu has been used sparingly, here at Sopris. Given what he is producing, he has earned more females going forward. He's stamping out his head type, fineness, density along with exquisite brightness and his calm, friendly demeanor, in virtually every offspring. Malibu has a very bright fleece, with a high frequency crimp style. His fleece characteristics are holding very well. Check out his fleece stats. So far, 6 crias, 5 Females, 1 male.

Oberle is the result of crossing Moon Unit Sapa with Snowmass Divine Love. He is classified as a pattern, due to large MF patches on both hips, and back. Color aside, Obes displays a fine, uniform, bright fleece with very nice density, along with a long staple. At 11 1/2 months old (only 10 1/2 months of regrowth), he sheared an eye opening 5.4 lbs. But what is most impressive about his fleece, is that all colors are virtually the same. He is very uniform across the various colors within his fleece.

Belvedere is a gorgeous beige male with incredible fleece. His fiber is ultra fine and crimp covers his body from head to toe. His mean curvature measures an outstanding 67.2% with only 0.4% of his fibers greater than 30 microns. Equally impressive, his histogram from 2016 is almost identical to that of 2010. His sire is Snowmass Matrix, the highest selling alpaca at auction who continues to produce champions, even at 19 years of age. His dam, Snowmass Bright Stars, is a multiple Produce of Dam winner who was a consistent producer of show winning cria. We are so grateful to co-own Belvedere with Crescent Moon Ranch.

Bomber earned a very respectable 9 banners in the show ring himself, and his progeny are following suit. Bomber's progeny have 5 banners, at last count. His temperament is even, calm and he is easy to handle. He gets along pretty well with the other mature males penned with him. He has epic fleece characteristics that he seems to consistently pass through - bright bright bright! High frequency crimp. A solid frame, a stocky but well proportioned frame with great substance of bone and a pleasing head type. Bomber is a keeper. Bomber is available for outside breedings, on a very limited basis, and he seldom disappoints. Annual's BEA-2 BOMBER remains one of the premier gray herdsires in the country. Bomber is proudly co-owned with Annie Hunt of Willow Wind Farm, and therefore in Colorado year-round.

This is 14x CHAMPION and 3x JUDGE’S CHOICE WINNER-ESTATES PASSIONATE FEVER! SOPRIS Alpaca Farm purchased 1/3 interest in him at The Futurity Sale in 2022. We proudly co-own him with Crescent Moon Ranch and Red Granite Ranch. The following was gleaned from Fever's page published by Alpaca Country Estates. Fever is the son of Snowmass Pure Passion, an outstanding champion producing stud with 5 GET-OF-SIRE Blue Ribbons, . Snowmass Alpacas said, “Snowmass Pure Passion is the most magnificent Light Fawn Matrix son Snowmass Alpacas has ever produced.” That's a strong statement! Passionate Fever was a formidable opponent in the show ring. As a juvenile, he won Light Male Color Champion & the Judge's Choice award at the 2019 California Classic. Jude Anderson awarded Fever the Color Championship at the 2019 CABA Classic (out of 17). In 2019, Passionate Fever was evaluated as an A+ by senior AOA Judge Amanda VandenBosch. "He has excellent substance of bone, balance to frame, fiber coverage, good organization within staple, maintains consistency across fleece, moves to the extremities to neck, good density relative to fineness." Jill Marcellus said, "He’s a very refined looking male, He’s moderately sized, right in the middle there, & that can be very useful in a breeding program. He’s got good balance & proportion, excellent substance of bone, a very typey male with a good strong phenotype. I really like his head style as well. His fleece is very fine & exceptionally uniform in all the fleece traits. I pulled samples from all over the place on him & really there is virtually no difference from mid-side to right into the front shoulder area to over to the hip. That also carried through with the staple type and also the expression of character through the fleece. It’s very uniform right across his body and underneath his belly." SOPRIS Alpaca Farm was shopping for an impact male, capable of throwing color. Passionate Fever was ultimately our selection. We bred him to a hand full of females in the short time we had him in Western Colorado, and have 6 confirmed pregnancies for 2023.

Intimadator is throwing some exciting offspring, and mostly females. He is stamping out typee heads, good bone, square, boxy frames and beautiful, highly organized fleeces. He did fairly well in the show ring, winning a few banners, and standing toe to toe with virtually anyone he faced, but my personal interest in him was for the breeding barn. Simply put, he checks a lot of boxes for what we breed for, and his offspring are validating this purchase. Intimadator is proudly co-owned with the farm that bred this fine male, Amber Autumn Alpacas, as well as Crescent Moon Ranch. Intimadator is closed at this time.

Bandit really came into his own as a 2 year old, allowing him to make our small show string. His fleece gets better and better as he matures, which is a positive, in my eyes. Bandit did well in the showring during the fall of 2022 and spring of 2023, winning 11 banners, bringing his total to 12. Exceptional density and uniformity of micron was the general theme of the judge's remarks. Bandit will begin working this summer, earning himself a few select females. Being a Matrix son, it didn't surprise us when his color genotyping test revealed ee Aa2. Since he covers black, he will be used as needed over girls of color as well as whites.

First off, we would like to thank Marc and Sharon Milligan for allowing us to purchase half interest in Chisholm. We're convinced that he will bring an elusive dimension to our breeding program. Red Granites Chisholm is a male with an amazing accumulation of many of the most significant white genetics in one pedigree. The genetic potency here with Peruvian Hemingway showing up on both Chisholm's maternal and paternal sides is something bodes well for the future. As a juvenile, Chisholm won a color championship and two reserve championships in halter, as well as aJudges' Choice win with his juvenile fleece at a fleece show under Amanda V. with an amazing score of 88/100 points. Though not under AOA, he was awarded the Judges' Choice. Amanda has told us this male is one to watch in the future and will without a doubt be a ELITE herdsire prospect. PLEASE STAY TUNED!

SOPRIS Big Time is proudly co-owned with Travis and Sarah of Cedar And Sage Alpacas. Conformation: Huge bone, very pleasing head, square and straight, robust, perfect bite. Fleece: Exceptional staple length, but with very good density. A rare combination. He is also very fine, with outstanding uniformity of micron. Bonus: Big Time has an easy going, very calm demeanor, and a gentle spirit.

RIP is out of Crescent Moon's Raspberry, a Bellarmine daughter, and he is sired by Annual's BEA-2 Bomber. He has an very long, staple with good density and uniformity of micron, resulting in long, tendril type staples. He has a very soft hand with good brightness. RIP comes in a powerful, compact frame with outstanding coverage, exceptional bone, square and straight, strong on his pasterns, and a pleasing head. RIP settled his first 2 females, for 2026 crias.

Manifest-Destiny, affectionately referred to as Max, is a generational male, that we are exceptionally fortunate to co-own with Crescent Moon Ranch. Max is extremely prepotent. He stamps out density, great bone, pleasing heads, compact frames and fleeces that are very uniform relative to fineness. Max was the Dark Male Supreme Champion at the 2020 AOA National Show, as well as earning 3 Judge's Choice awards in the halter ring. One thing is for certain: When a female is confirmed pregnant to Manifest-Destiny, the waiting for delivery is agonizing! Always among the most anticipated crias! Max is closed to outside breedings, but daughters are sometimes available, and females that come with a breeding, can be bred to him, should you so choose.

Praise is an exciting, dark fawn, two year old female out of MLR Promise and by Estates Passionate Fever. She exhibits a high frequency crimp style with a good degree of staple architecture. She's very true to type, strong and straight with a good attitude. We're excited to breed this young female when she reaches physical maturity. Her dam, MLR Promise has excellent retained fineness, at almost 15 years of age. Sire Estates Passionate Fever is stamping beautiful heads, excellent fineness and uniformity of micron, along with brightness. Praise was bred to Snowmass Matrix Belvedere for an early May 2026 cria. She delivered a smokin hot female on May 11, 2026. Praise will now be bred to Manifest-Destiny for a spring 2027 cria.

Moon Kissed, MK is a large framed, big boned female, with a fine, uniform fleece. She has nice density and very good brightness. She grows a long staple, with a medium amplitude, medium frequency crimp style. Her primaries are very similar in size to her secondary fibers, resulting in a very soft hand. Farm visitors often point her out as their favorite. MK is a banner winner herself and has produced 2 offspring, who are both banner winners.

Karamel is a well conformed female with an excellent bite and nice head. She is one of only 6 offspring of the late Greener Pastures Malachi, a Legacy son, so a rare girl, indeed. She grows a very well-defined fleece, with nice brightness and a very soft hand. On 9/30/2022, Karamel delivered the nicest cria ever born on our farm. His name is SOPRIS Kane, by Malibu Bay. Kane is Malibu's only son to date. Kane is a beautiful LF male, the complete package and definitely one for astute breeders to keep an eye on!

We acquired Perfection during Snow Diamond's herd disbursement. She is a full sister to Snowmass Matrix Belvedere. A quick look at Perfection's EPD will unmistakably give you an idea of her quality. We feel very blessed to have had the chance to purchase her.

Abilene's first offspring, by Snowmass Stylish Enlightning is just 2 weeks old as of this writing, but we couldn't be more pleased! Abilene is one of our few gray foundation females, with phenomenal mothering instincts, and a great milk producer! With a highly organized, bright, dense fleece, a strong, square and straight frame and a pleasing head type, and great bone. This is the type of female that can be bred in a multitude of ways, and the resulting offspring will likely be quite good. For 2027, Abilene will be bred with the 2025 Futurity overall herdsire of the year for dark offspring, LibertyAlpacas Manifest-Destiny.
